December 20: In a time when digital transformation is the buzzword, traditional engagement models with outsourced suppliers are of little relevance to application development and delivery (AD&D) leaders.
In its November 2017 report, “New Engagement Models Emerge for Custom Software Outsourcing,” Forrester Research examines how service providers are rising to answer the call of AD&D leaders to help them combat challenges in a digital age. With modernizing the architecture and taking new apps live faster, the report identifies how new partnership models have synthesized more efficient ways to accelerate digital transformation. These renewed partnerships have been immensely fruitful for both clients and vendors.
Brillio’s winning engagement models mentioned in the report
The report presents several models that emerged from collective insights garnered by both clients and service providers. The report mentions Brillio’s innovative engagement models - ‘Managed team’ and ‘Agile outcome’ as examples that have been successfully implemented for two of our clients.
In the ‘Managed team’ model, Brillio partnered with a major US grocery chain by setting up a dedicated team on behalf of the client. The vendor not only managed the team, but also complemented the team with local resources so that requirements, real-time communication and key performance indicators could be managed more easily. In this model, the team was amorphous and could be adjusted by the client depending on the skills required for the project.
The ‘Agile outcome’ model was executed by Brillio in partnership with a multinational enterprise IT company which needed custom decision support tools for their sales and marketing teams. Under this model, Brillio built the tools using the Agile methodology where it built a minimum viable product over a set of sprints even as the requirements evolved throughout the project. In this model, the client participated in the planning and review sessions. The client paid Brillio for each sprint. As the outcome of each sprint was a tangible deliverable that the client could use, the organization had the flexibility to choose to renew or not, depending on the desired outcome.
Speaking about these engagements, Vinod Subramanyam, Head – Digital Experience with Brillio said “Our client-centric approach and culture of innovation are key to driving digital transformations for our clients. We understand that the needs of our clients are dynamic. Therefore, we align our strategies with theirs to derive the greatest value from the engagement.”
Leveraging partnerships to derive value
The engagement models like the ones offered by Brillio among others presented in this report can potentially unlock higher value provided AD&D leaders choose a model based on the scenario and be active through all phases of service delivery for a successful engagement.
